Fort Wilderness Staycation

Escape the ordinary camping experience at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground! Our recent family staycation at this magical maze of nature left us longing for more but maybe during cooler weather =) Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable getaway:

We opted for a spacious 47-foot RV rental, complete with all the comforts of home, including our beloved labradoodle, Barkley. I highly recommend using Kissimmee RV Rentals! We picked out our RV, secured our extras like firewood, outdoor rug and zip up tent to keep the bugs out while we eat. Once our campground was available we were given a window for arrival when they would come and set everything up for us (this is a full hook-up rental). Easy peasy! Don’t forget to reserve your golf cart…zooming around the campground on golf carts added an extra element of fun, allowing us to explore every nook and cranny with ease, not to mention driving to the marina to catch the evening Firework show!

Since we were staycationing with friends, we planned extra activities to keep everyone busy. Those willing to get up at 6am were thrilled to spend the morning on a guided fishing boat on Bay Lake, casting lines and counting fish. Later that afternoon, we enjoyed an hour long horseback riding excursion along the quite scenic trails. Book these early!

For a more leisurely water adventure, canoe and kayak rentals provided the perfect opportunity to splash the person next to you and build some upper arm strength while enjoying the serene landscape. And of course, no staycation would be complete without a much needed dip in the swimming pool, where us adults could enjoy a beverage and the kids could burn some energy.

Being at Fort Wilderness also gave us easy access to the many resort restaurants which we also booked way in advance, especially on this holiday weekend. We enjoyed Brunch and all-you-can-eat skillets at the Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge, known for loud talking and yelling at the top of your lungs when you need ketchup (no whispering here!). Lastly, we ended the stay with our personal favorite, Jiko, at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food is amazing and the wine list is even better =)

So, whether you’re seeking adventure in the great outdoors, relaxation, or a bit of both, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground promises an unforgettable family glamping escape. Pack your bags, rent an RV, and embark on your own magical journey into the heart of this wilderness paradise!
